Asaji Roadside Station, located in Bungo-Ono City along National Route 57, is an easy and convenient place to stop when driving through the southern Oita area. Parking is spacious, and the distance from the parking lot to the building is short, which makes it comfortable for families with strollers or small children.

My Visit and Impressions

The restroom facilities are not new, but they are clean and well maintained. Some roadside stations can have older restrooms that feel a bit worrying, but this one felt safe and easy to use with children.

We brought rice balls for lunch, so we bought a croquette from the shop inside. The outside was crispy, the inside was soft, and it had a noticeable savory flavor from the meat. It was a simple but satisfying snack.

We also tried the “Reward Pudding” sold inside. It had a smooth texture and no caramel sauce, which was perfect for our 2-year-old who usually avoids puddings with caramel. They finished it quickly without hesitation.

The ingredients were milk, fresh cream, sugar, egg yolk, egg white, and organic vanilla flavor — simple and easy to feel comfortable giving to a young child. However, people who prefer less-sweet desserts may find it a bit on the sweeter side.

Local Produce Corner

The produce section had a wide selection of local vegetables and products. We bought garland chrysanthemum (shungiku) and yam, both very fresh and more affordable than at regular supermarkets.
