We visited Midorino Okoku Park on a cloudy winter day. It was chilly, but the park was quiet and uncrowded, so we could explore at a relaxed pace. Overall, this spot feels less like a “playground park” and more like a place to enjoy open lawns and animal encounters.

Dog Run and Open Lawn Area
Near the parking lot, there is a dog run that was busy with both large and small dogs on the day we visited. My youngest child loves animals and was happy just watching the dogs.
After crossing the road, you’ll reach the main park area with a wide lawn. It’s spacious enough for ball games or badminton, and there is also a gentle grassy slope where children can enjoy sliding. It’s a great space for kids who want to move freely outdoors.
Honest Note: Playground Equipment Is Aged
To be completely honest, some playground equipment looks quite old:
- Parts of the roller slide were cracked and did not slide smoothly.
- Some smaller equipment was damaged and unavailable for use.
If you’re visiting mainly for modern playground equipment, you may find it a bit underwhelming. This park is better enjoyed as a place for lawn play, walking, and spending time with animals.
Mini Train Ride (200 yen)
In summer, we usually get soft-serve ice cream here, but it was too cold this time. Instead, we rode the mini train.
- Price: 200 yen per ride (about three laps)
- Best for: train-loving toddlers and preschoolers
One ride wasn’t enough for my youngest, who immediately asked for another round. We saved it for next time because we had more plans that day.

Rabbit Petting Area (Highly Recommended)
A short walk from the mini train area brings you to the rabbit petting zone. Kids can feed rabbits that come out from their hutches, and it’s surprisingly calm and easy to enjoy.
- Entry fee: 100 yen (ages 3 and up)
- Rabbit feed: 100 yen
- Gloves: provided to help prevent bites
Even after the food is gone, rabbits often come closer just because you’re holding the bag—very cute. I’m sensitive to animal smells, but I didn’t notice any unpleasant odor at all, even with so many rabbits. Handwashing facilities are available outside.

Midori Factory Direct Shop (A Must-Stop Nearby)
About one minute by car (or a short walk) from the park is the Midori Factory Direct Shop. It’s usually busy and clearly popular with locals.
- Summer favorite: yogurt shakes to go
- This visit: fried bread and drinkable yogurt (perfect on a cold day)
- Good to know: tofu and milk are often cheaper than supermarkets, and shelf-stable milk is also available

Best Time to Visit + Who This Park Is For
This park shines most in warmer seasons when the lawns are bright green and you can relax outdoors comfortably.
- Families who want wide lawn space for free play
- Kids who love animals (especially rabbits)
- Visitors who want to pair a park stop with local dairy treats
If you expect a playground-focused park, this may not be the right fit. But if you’re looking for open green space, gentle animal encounters, and a casual local experience, Midorino Okoku Park can be a satisfying stop in Oita.
